The SILK ROAD Biography
|
In 1993, a small group of San Francisco Bay Area flamenco guitar students formed a band called "Ritmos de Flamenco." This group evolved into a quartet whose musical visions stretch across the vast realms of Eurasia and beyond. Inspired by the ancient trade route that linked the Mediterranean with the Far East, the quartet called themselves SILK ROAD. Although strongly rooted in their flamenco backgrounds, SILK ROAD has traveled far beyond the confines of Andalucian music -- and has tastefully incorporated styles from around the world into their own compositions. They continue to incorporate many world instruments and musical styles. The musical offerings of this group are vast, but all of their pieces have firm roots in flamenco guitar technique, which gives Silk Road a signature sound that is as much accessible as it is exotic. The group is equally at home in a large festival setting, a coffee house, a restaurant, a wedding, or any gathering that welcomes acoustic guitar music that is passionate, organic and ethnically eclectic without being loud or overbearing. Their music is universal and from the heart. |

"Like the trade route they have named themselves after, the
four member flamenco guitar group Silk Road incorporates a vast tapestry
of sonic vignettes influenced by cultures along this ancient path." "We are excited to welcome back Silk Road to our Cafe Espresso.
Their range of sounds is vast and ethnically eclectic; at the same time,
all of their music has firm roots in flamenco guitar technique which
provides its signature sound. A favorite from early in the year, we
look forward to their return!!" "There is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than listening to Silk Road and their flamenco style guitar sound in our Cafe." "Silk Road brings their vast and ethnically eclectic sound to our store. With firm roots in flamenco guitar technique, this group inspires and moves their audience with their signature sound." "Gather with the crowd to hear the spirited sound of Silk Road .... with their flamenco style guitar sound at the foundation of their musical approach..." "Akilyn Rostege, merchandising manager at Borders, said she was surprised by the turnout that night (for the band Silk Road). "It was really packed," Rostege said. Usually when a band plays, hardly anyone listens, but that night there were a ton of people (listening) in the cafe." |
